FRSC vows to enforce safety rules, regulations in Kano

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has vowed to enforce safety rules and regulations on road users, especially articulated drivers to curb crashes in Kano State.

The State FRSC sector Commander, Muhammed Bature, stated this at a town hall meeting on Monday in Kano.

He said that the meeting is to address persistent safety and security challenges posed by articulated vehicles.

The sector commander urged articulated vehicle drivers to adopt responsible driving habits in a bid to mitigate rising incidents of road crashes and explosions across the state.

He decried frequent cases of explosions involving tankers and trailers, describing the situation as a critical issue which is not peculiar to Kano state, but across the country.

"As owners of the larger percentage of articulated vehicles in the country National Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) no doubt has an important role to play in the campaign for safety of haulage operations in the country.

"As basic as in the areas of training of drivers and ensuring proper and regular maintenance of vehicles, NARTO surely is pivotal in uploading these safety,"he said.

Bature said the call has become imperative in view of the rampant escalation of cases of tanker explosion FRSC frowns at this wanton destruction of lives and property.

"All hands must be on deck to stop the carnage, every road users and vehicle must ensure safety whenever they are on the road.

The sector commander also urged trailers to desist from conveying animals with human beings to avoid unforseen circumstances.

On his part, the Public Relations Officer of NARTO, Aminu Umar, described the meeting as timely and urged the drivers to make good use of the meeting and always drive with care.

Death of Kano athletes: FRSC vows to probe scene of crash

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has vowed to investigate spot of accident that caused tragic death of 22 athletes who lost their lives in a recent road crash.

The Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, made this known during a condolence visit to the Kano State Government on Monday in Kano.

NAN reports the accident occured at about 12:30pm on May 31, 2025 along Kano-Zaria road while the deceased athletes were returning from the just concluded national sports festival in Ogun state.

He said the Corps have initiated investigation on the scene and cause of the accident as part of it mandate is to conduct thorough research and investigations into accident causes.

Mohammed, who was represented by Assistant Corps Marshal Ahmed Umar, described the incident as deeply heartbreaking and devastating.

According to him, “FRSC does not believe road crashes happen without cause rather they bare often the result of factors that were not properly managed.”

“That particular spot is quite notorious for being prone to fatal road traffic crashes.
“Our officials will carry out a detailed investigation at the accident site and make the report available for further necessary action,” he added.

He further stated the Corps is willing to partner with  state government to prevent and reduce the loss of lives on the roads.
Muhammed called on the government that any of such travelling of  interstates should involve FRSC for safety precautions.
He also said that the FRSC will continue to educate the general public on safety of road and drive with caution.

On his part, the Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam said they did not only go to get medal they also give their contribution in the unity of state.

“They won medals and proudly come back to celebrate with the state when this sudden incident happened celebrated few kilometers to kano State”,he said.

He appreciates the show of love and concern by the corps marshal for commiserating with the people of Kano at large. Abdussalam pray for the repose of the soul and wish such deadly occurrence will never happen again.(NAN)
