Kano Health Ministry, HMB Embark on Executive Supervision of Facilities

By Frank Pinicop

To restore sanity and revolutionize the health sector in general, Kano State Hospital Management Board, in partnership with the Ministry of Health, has jointly commenced tenacious executive supervision of healthcare facilities across the state.

The exercise, which was officially launched on Monday 27th of January, was designed to cover all facilities under the Board, located both in the metropolis and the rural areas.

Speaking on the essence of the exercise, the Executive Secretary of Hospital Management Board Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda said the supervision strives to create a positive attitudinal change among medical workers and ensure all government interventions are properly utilized.

Other major objectives of the exercise, according to him, are to increase efficiency in service delivery and mitigate hoarding and diversion of commodities provided by the state government. by some unpatriotic health workers.

"We are paying the unscheduled visits to health facilities to mainly assess their sanitary conditions and see how the services are rendered. The major issues we largely concentrate on include checking of staff roster for all cadres so as to check on the professional relationships among staff in order to avoid unwanted rivalry.

"The significance is to reduce truancy to the minimum level, to curtail unnecessary delays in intervention, and to make sure all government policies, especially on crushing maternal and neonatal mortality, are fully implemented. Here, we check and view utilization registers of free delivery and Cesarean sections," he stressed.

The Executive Secretary further explained that the exercise was not meant to harass, intimidate, or witchunt anybody but rather to generally improve service delivery at all government-owned facilities in the state.

He noted that the state government, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has rolled out several measures and interventions to provide succor and improve the welfare of the patients. Such interventions include issuing out free delivery kits, free accident and emergency items, and free cleansing items for general sanitation of facilities and maintenance of proper hygienic condition among staffers.
