In its bid to continue strengthening healthcare delivery in the state, the Kano State Health Trust Fund (KHETFUND) has, on Thursday 30th October 2025, successfully carried out a post-funding verification exercise following the Dental Equipment Intervention at Sir Muhammad Sanusi Specialist Hospital, Kano. The exercise was aimed at ensuring that the funded medical equipment were duly procured, properly installed, and are being effectively utilized in line with the objectives of the intervention.

As part of its 2025 regular intervention, the KHETFUND has, on 15th August 2025, released the sum of N15,793,000 to Sir Muhammad Sanusi Specialist Hospital for the procurement of the equipment.

Led by the Executive Secretary of KHETFUND, Dr. Fatima Usman Zahraddeen, the verification team engaged hospital management to assess the functionality, quality, and impact of the newly provided dental equipment for effective service delivery. The verification also reviewed adherence to procurement standards, accountability measures, and sustainability practices in maintaining the equipment.
Speaking during the visit, Dr. Fatima Usman Zahraddeen emphasized the KHETFUND’s commitment to transparency and strengthening health systems across Kano State. “Our mandate goes beyond disbursing funds — we are equally committed to monitoring outcomes to ensure that funds invested translates into better healthcare for the people of Kano,” the Executive Secretary stated.

"This intervention is part of KHETFUND’s broader initiative to upgrade critical healthcare infrastructure across Kano State, improve access to quality services, and promote sustainable healthcare financing," she added.
Responding, the Chief Medical Director of Sir Muhammad Sanusi Specialist Hospital, Dr. Usman Tijjani, expressed appreciation to KHETFUND for its continuous support and reaffirmed the hospital’s dedication to providing quality oral healthcare services. He noted that the new dental equipment has significantly enhanced diagnostic and treatment capacity, reduced referral of patients, as well as reducing patient waiting time and improving service efficiency.
In another development, the KHETFUND team, led by the Executive Secretary Dr. Fatima Usman Zahraddeen, has visited Gaya Emirate for a pre-funding verification in response to the Gaya General Hospital’s request for funds to procure and install solar systems at the facility. The verification exercise was aimed at assessing the current power situation in the hospital and verifying the feasibility and readiness of the facility for the proposed solar systems intervention.

Speaking during the visit, the Executive Secretary noted that the Fund prioritizes interventions that directly impact healthcare outcomes, stressing that the initiative aligns with the Fund’s strategic focus on improving energy sustainability and service delivery across public health facilities in Kano State.

“Reliable power supply is essential for effective healthcare delivery, especially in rural and semi-urban areas. The proposed installion of solar system at Gaya General Hospital will ensure uninterrupted power for critical services, improve patient care, and provide conducive working environment for health personnel.

"This pre-funding verification is part of our transparent and accountable approach to managing health investments in the state, ensuring that every funded intervention meets due diligence, aligns with state priorities, and delivers sustainable impact," she explained.

The KHETFUND team was received by the hospital management, who expressed appreciation for the initiative and reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining the facility once the proposed intervention is approved and subsequently executed.

When approved, the solar system intervention is expected to significantly reduce the hospital’s dependency on diesel generators, lower operational costs, and ensure constant electricity supply for vital equipment such as cold chain systems, laboratory tools, and maternal care units.

Under the leadership of Dr. Fatima Usman Zahraddeen, the KHETFUND remains dedicated to supporting the Kano State Government’s agenda for qualitative, accessible, and resilient healthcare through strategic funding, infrastructure development, and implementing and performance monitoring.

......KHETFUND is everywhere, within the state, within the health sector.
