The Executive Secretary, Nigerian Red Cross Society, Kano branch, Alhaji Musa Abdullahi, has urged residents to desilt drainages in order to prevent incidences of building collapse in this raining season.
Speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Kano, Abdullahi said the action was necessary in order to create easy passage of water.
“Climate change is real, there is heavy rainfall on daily basis across the country which can cause building collapses and wash away several farms,’’ he said.
He also said that the people living in prone areas should keep their environment clean, tidy and disease free.
The Executive Secretary said the society had recently conducted House to House sensitization campaign in 44 local government areas to ensure clean environment.
Abdullahi further appealed to Kano state government to work with the society in disaster management especially in the area of financial assistance to victims.
“If we assist them with cash, it will save cost of transportation, enable them do other things like buying drugs and other commodity, instead of donating materials. (NAN)
