A coalition of Civil Society Organization, under the umbrella of Prosperous Kano Initiative, has called on the security establishments in Kano state to identify, apprehend, and subsquently prosecute the sponsors and the masterminds of the mayhem which occured in the state during the recent nationwide protests which took place between Thursday 1st August to Sunday 4th August.
This call was made by Comrade Kabiru Isah Jibril, the Convener of the association at a press briefing held today (Wednesday) in Kano, which was attended by the leaders of all organizztions that formed the coalition.
Decrying the indiscriminate looting and wanton destruction of both public and private properties, the Prosperous Kano Initiative, also known as "Rundunar Kare Mutuncin Kano," posited that the arrest and prosecution of the sponspors of the violence become necessary in order to serve justice to the victims of the crisis and prevent future ocurrences.
According to them, the atrocities were committed by "hired political thugs which emenated from Nassarawa Emirate Council cemetry which," they said, "is illegally occupied by deposed Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero."
Therefore, the associoation called on the state government, security outfits, elders, ulamas, leaders of business community, and other stakeholders to join hands together to make sure the former emir is moved out of Nassarawa mini palace, where he currently resides, as with the tradition of the Emirate Council, and to forestall further breakdown of law and order.
The Rundunar Kare Mutuncin Kano also implored on the state goverment, led by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, to establish a commission of inquiry that will investigate the atrocities committed during the protests, including killings of innocent youths, men, women, and children.
Moreover, Jibril enjoined the security operatives to remain neutral, professional, and work harmoniously with the state government to return the lasting peace enjoyed throughout the state before the unfortunate event.
Furthermore, the civil society organizations urged the good people of Kano to embrace peace at all times, so as to move the state forward, stressing that without peace and unity, the much-desired progress and development would forever remain elusive.
The coaliion finally commiserated with the families who lost their loved ones, the injured victims, and those whose properties were vandalized.
