Kano SSG Praise DMCSA for Remarkable Achievements in Public Health

The Kano State Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alh. Umar Farouk Ibrahim has lauded the State Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency for its exemplary performance in transforming the pharmaceutical sector.

Speaking when he received the leadership of Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), who paid him a courtesy visit in his office, the SSG commended the Director-General DMCSA Pharm. Gali Sule and the management team for their transparency, dedication, and commitment, which according to him have resulted in recording significant strides in the agency’s operations, including the repayment of more 80 percent of inherited debts.

“Today, we recognize the Kano State Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency not only for paying off most of the debts that previously hindered its capacity but also for its visible achievements in improving access to quality medicines and strengthening the drug supply chain across the state,” the SSG explained. “This administration places a premium on accountability, and the DMCSA has demonstrated what is possible with sound management and clear focus.”

The SSG highlighted some of the agency’s key milestones, including paying off of multimillion-naira legacy debt inherited from past administration and the revamping of the state’s central drug warehouse and distribution system.

Other remarkable achievements recorded at DMCSA under Pharm Gali Sule are partnerships with health facilities to ensure consistent drug availability at primary and secondary healthcare levels, the implementation of a digital inventory management system, enhancing efficiency and reducing wastage, among others.

He further assured continued government support to the agency to expand its impact and maintain the gains recorded in the health sector.

Shading more light to the press on the development, the Director-General of the Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency, Pharm. Gali Sule thanked the state government, headed by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, for its unrelenting support and reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to delivering safe, affordable, and accessible medicines to the people.

“Our mission is clear: no Kano citizen should be denied access to essential drugs due to cost or unavailability,” he said. “The progress we’ve made is a testament to what can be achieved through collaboration, vision, and integrity.”

Earlier speaking at the event, the National President of PSN Pharm. Ayuba Tanko Ibrahim said they were at the SSG's Officer to extend their gratitude to the State Government for supporting the association.

Pharm. Ibrahim further added that the courtesy call is also part of the Society's efforts to collaborate with Kano State Government and other relevant stakeholders to strategically enhance access to quality medicines and generally strengthen healthcare delivery systems in the state.

The president further emphasized the critical role pharmacists play in achieving universal health coverage, ensuring drug safety, and supporting public health initiatives.

"This visit is aimed at reinforcing cooperation between the Kano State Government and the PSN. We are here not only to pay our respects to the SSG but to also seek stronger collaboration in areas that directly impact the lives of our people,” the President clarified. “Our pharmacists are on the frontlines of healthcare, and with the government’s support, we can do even more to improve outcomes and access to safe medications.”

In response, the SSG commended the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria for its continued dedication to public health and pledged the administration’s commitment to enhancing the pharmacy profession's role within the state’s health architecture.

“We recognize the value your profession brings to our healthcare system, and we are open to working closely with you to ensure quality healthcare delivery for all citizens,” said Alh. Umar Farouk Ibrahim.

The PSN’s visit and SSG's commendation to DMCSA mark a significant milestone in the state’s journey toward a more efficient and reliable healthcare system.

KHETFUND Launch Sensitization Campaign to Boost Awareness on Operations, Accessing Healthcare Financing

In a concerted effort to generally create awareness of healthcare financing opportunities and increase access to vital healthcare support, the Executive Secretary of Kano State Health Trust Fund (KHETFUND), Dr. Fatima Usman Zahraddeen has commenced a robust sensitization tour to government agencies under the Ministry of Health, state-owned healthcare facilities, and state-owned health institutions, with a view to enhance understanding of the operations of the agency.

The sensitization campaign is aimed at engaging the stakeholders and beneficiaries at all levels and providing detailed insights into the agency's mandate, funding mechanisms, and application processes.

According to the Executive Secretary, the initiative is designed to demystify the operations of KHETFUND and ensure that eligible beneficiaries, including government health agencies, hospitals, and health institutions, namely the state-owned colleges of nursing and midwifery, the state-owned colleges of health sciences and technology, and the state-owned Northwest University, are equipped with the necessary information to access available resources.

"Our mission is to ensure that every stakeholder is aware of the health funding opportunities available through the KHETFUND," the Executive Secretary, pointed out, adding that "Transparency, accessibility, and impact are at the heart of what we do, and this tour is an important step toward achieving those goals."

“This tour is an opportunity to engage directly with our partners, understand their challenges, and reinforce the need for judicious use of funds. Our collective goal is to build a resilient healthcare system that truly serves the people,” she emphasized.


Earlier speaking, the Director-General of Kano State Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency Pharm. Gali Sule has expressed his gratitude to the KHETFUND for the interventions and supports it provided to his agency, including providing the state counterpart funding for the construction of a world-class PharmaGrade Warehouse, and the funding of upgrading and remodeling of DMCSA's Drug Manufacturing Unit into a modern Quality Control Laboratory, which were all became possible due to the consent, support and cooperation given by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

“Having the KHETFUND leadership on-site underscores their commitment to transparency and collaboration,” Pharm. Sule noted. “It motivates us to do more and remain accountable to the communities we serve.”

During the visit, Dr. Muhammad Lawan Adamu, the Director Operations of KHETFUND, made a comprehensive presentation on the agency’s operations, its sources of funding and priorities, and strategic health programs it supports.

The event concluded with the inspection tour to a project site of ongoing Remodeling of Drug Manufacturing Unit into Quality Control Laboratory.

KHETFUND is a Kano State Government agency established to mobilize and manage funds dedicated to strengthening the health system. The agency supports a wide range of interventions, including infrastructure development, equipment procurement, workforce training, and healthcare financing reforms.

Kano Mass Education Agency Flags Off Learning Center for Vigilantes in Gwale, Distributes Learning Materials

The Kano State Agency for Mass Education has officially opened an educational center in Gwale Local Government Area for members of the vigilante group. The center will offer classes from primary to secondary level for those who were unable to complete their education.

Declaring the center opened, Dr. Binta Abubakar, the Executive Secretary Agency for Mass Education, emphasized that one of the core missions of her Agency is youth empowerment, assuring the citizens of Kano State of present administration's commitment to equip the new centre with learning materials, as well as to tran the potential beneficiaries on vocational skills, so that they will become self-reliant.

She further stressed that the remarkable project became reality due to the unwavering commitment of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and his passion for education, as contained in a press statement issued to newsmen by Fauziyya Habib Mahmud, a Public Relations Officer of Agency for Mass Education.

“Building this gigantic and historic center and the distribution of learning materials became possible as a result of the visionary leadership and support of His Excellency Governor Alh. Abba Kabir Yusuf, a true leader dedicated to uplifting the people," she noted.

The Executive Secretary commended the Chairman of Gwale Local Government Abubakar Mu'azu for his efforts toward addressing educational challenges in the area.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of Gwale Local Government enjoined members of the vigilante group to take full advantage of the opportunity.

Pledging his unflinching support to the Center to ensure the success of the program, the Chairman expressed gratitude to Governor Yusuf for making the initiative a reality.

He then commended the Executive Secretary of the Agency for her dedication and commitment to adult and non-formal education in the state.

Kano Drug Agency Holds Quarterly Review Meeting to Track Progress

The Kano State Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency has successfully conducted its second Quarterly Review Meeting for the year 2025, marking significant progress in its efforts to ensure efficient, transparent, and equitable drug management in the state.

Held at the conference hall of the agency, the meeting brought together key stakeholders in the health sector, including senior leadership, technical staff, representatives from the relevant ministriesl, departments and agencies (MDAs), and development partners.. The agenda focused on reviewing performance indicators, assessing stock levels, supply chain efficiency, and identifying areas for improvement in the drug distribution system.

It was revealed at the meeting that the witnesed an improved drug availability at public health facilities during the second quarter, reduction in stock-out rates following the implementation of real-time inventory tracking and logistics management tools, and the digital transformation, as the agency, in collaboration with an implementing partner, has launched an Intergrated Last-Mile Delivery (iLMD), aiming to enhance visibility and accountability in supply chains.

Addressing the meeting, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, the Commissioner for Health, assured the participants and entire Kano State residents that transforming of health sector is one of the cardinal principles of Kano State government, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

"We remain committed to achieving universal access to essential medicines. Our progress this quarter reflects the dedication of our team and partners.

In his welcome address, Pharm Gali Sule, the Director-General DMCSA, said this review meeting is seventh of its kind since the inception of the present administration, commending the Commissioner for chairing all the previous meetings.

He further noted that the meeting was organized to track the progress made by the agency on a quarterly basis.

He thanked Governor Yusuf for according utmost priority and necessary support to the agency in particular and the Ministry of Health as a whole.

On his part, Pharm. Tukur Ibrahim, the Director Drugs and Supply of the DMCSA, spoke on the objectives of the meeting and made a presentation on the second quarter report of DMCSA central stores.

The Kano State DMCSA is a statutory body under the Ministry of Health mandated to procure, distribute, drugs, and medical consumables in Kano State. The agency strives to ensure that all citizens have timely access to safe, effective, and affordable medicines.

Pharmacy Forum Honors Gali Sule with Prestigious Award of Excellence

In a landmark recognition of visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to pharmaceutical excellence, the National Association of Retired Pharmacy Technicians of Nigeria, Kano State Chapter, has honored Pharm. Gali Sule, the Director-General Kano State Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply with a prestigious Award of Excellence.

Presented during a formal ceremony to commemorate Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf's two years in office held at DMCSA, the award celebrates Pharm. Sule's exceptional contributions to drug regulation, access to essential medicines, and the modernization of pharmaceutical services across the country.

“Pharm. Gali Sule has set a new benchmark for drug safety, accessibility, and supply chain integrity in our nation,” said Mukhtar Idris, the Acting Chairman of the Forum. “This award reflects the admiration of those who spent their careers building the foundation of our pharmaceutical system—and who now recognize a worthy torchbearer for the future.”

According to him, the Association, whose members retired from active service from 2021 and 2025, has presented the award to the Director-General due to his "transparency, intergrity and examplary leadership; and his tireless efforts to uphold pharmaceutical ethical conduct within the agency."

"Pharmacist Gali Sule's outstanding commitment to accountability and transparent service delivery, that set a standard supply chain management, motivated the Forum to conferred on him the title of the 'Intergrity Ambassador.'"

Since assuming leadership of the DMCSA, the Director-General has overseen sweeping reforms aimed at expanding public access to qualitative and affordable drugs and consumables. Under his stewardship, the agency has implemented cutting-edge digital tracking systems, improved procurement transparency, and fostered stronger collaborations with key stakeholders such as development partners, health institutions, government regulatory agencies as well as pharmaceutical companies. 

He expressed gratitude to the retired professionals for their legacy and support:
"It is truly humbling to be recognized by those who laid the foundation for our profession. Your dedication continues to inspire everything we do today to protect and promote public health. I am committed to continuing the work they began—ensuring safe and equitable access to medicines for every citizen."

The ceremony was attended by dignitaries from the health sector, regulatory bodies, community leaders, and fellow pharmacy professionals—past and present—who applauded the milestone as a moment of pride for the industry

This Award of Excellence also marks a significant milestone in the Association’s history, as it seeks to celebrate current leaders who exemplify the values and dedication that have long defined the pharmacy profession.

Kano DMCSA Celebrates Gov Yusuf’s Landmark Achievements in Drug Accessibility

The Kano State Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency has organized a two-year anniversary to.celebrates the outstanding achievements of His Excellency Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in transforming drug management, access to essential medicines, and overall healthcare delivery across Kano State.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf the Commissioner for Health said under the visionary leadership of Governor Yusuf, the DMCSA has undergone a significant transformation—streamlining operations, enhancing transparency, and ensuring the efficient distribution of safe, affordable, and high-quality medicines to all corners of the state.

The Commissioner, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry Pharm. Aminu Bashir stressed that Governor Yusuf's administration has prioritized health system strengthening through strategic investments in pharmaceutical infrastructure, the digitization of drug inventory systems, and robust regulatory frameworks.

In his address, Pharm. Gali Sule, the Director-General of DMCSA, said the event, which brought together all stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, donor partners, community leaders, and the general public, is organized annually to showcase the success recorded at the Agency and to honor the governor’s exemplary contributions.

“We are proud to celebrate a leader whose commitment to the health and well-being of our citizens is both visionary and impactful,” Pharm. Sule stated, adding that "Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has elevated drug management from a challenge to a model of excellence.”

The Director-General assured the residents of the state that his Agency remains committed to upholding the standards set by Governor Yusuf, ensuring that the legacy of his leadership continues to benefit generations to come.

Speaking on the notable achievements recorded at the Agency in two years, Pharm. Tukur Ibrahim, the Director Drugs and Supply of DMCSA, listed the notable achievements, including paying off over 80 percent of the debt inherited from previous administration, from of N1.2 billion to N250 million.

Another success is the facitating the establishment of a modern PharmaGrade Warehouse to transform the central medical stores into climate-controlled facilities to ensure drug integrity and timely supply across all local government areas.

Others are an increase in health facility coverage and improved access to essential medicines where the availability rate of medicines at public health facilities has significantly increased, and at the same time, it reduces out-of-pocket expenditures for patients.

"We introduced ntroduction e-Procurement System, which has drastically improved transparency, accountability, and value-for-money in drug procurement processes," Pharm Ibrahim declared.

"We also restrengthen the partnerships and stakeholder engagement by forging strong alliances with donor agencies, pharmaceutical companies, and civil society organizations to drive sustainable healthcare delivery," he added.

During this historic occasion, the Director-General Pharm. Gali Sule was honored with an award of excellence by the National Association of Pharmacy Technicians of Nigeria, Kano State Branch, which is a retirees forum who left service between 2021 to 2025.

Similarly, some selected staff, cutting across all cadres from all departments and units, were honored for dedication to their respective duties.

The Kano DMCSA is the statutory body responsible for the procurement, storage, and distribution of quality-assured medicines and health commodities for public health facilities across the state and beyond.

The attention of the Kano State Ministry for Public Procurement, Project Monitoring and Evaluation (MPPPM&E) has been drawn to fraudulent phone calls being made by an individual who falsely identifies herself as Hajiya Hadiza Ibrahim with phone number (+2349013782697, +2349036876486), claiming to be a staff member of the Ministry.

This individual is reportedly contacting contractors and demanding the renewal of due process licenses under the guise of an "Emergency Award of Contract." She further requests that payments be made into various bank accounts, including that of one *Aliyu Yahaya* , FCMB with account number *6092046011* .

The Ministry wishes to categorically state that these calls are fraudulent, misleading, and completely false. The Ministry has not authorized any such person to make calls or request money from contractors under any circumstances. All payment in respect of contract license are done through the https://etax.kirs.gov.ng

The general public especially contractors are hereby strongly advised to disregard any such calls or messages. Anyone who engages with these fraudulent actors does so at their own risk.
