As part of its mandate to strengthen the healthcare system in Kano through sustainable investments in health infrastructure and human resource development, the Kano Health Trust Fund (KHETFUND) team has, on Wednesday 22nd October 2025, paid a post-funding verification visit to the School of Midwifery, Dambatta.

The verification visit to the school is part of KHETFUND's ongoing efforts to support health education and strengthen the healthcare workforce across Kano State. The visit was aimed at verifying the funding support to the tune of N1.878 million released to the school on 10th June 2025 as a support for the Final Qualifying Examination.

Speaking during the exercise, Dr. Fatima Usman Zahraddeen, the Executive Secretary of KHETFUND, who was represented by Director Planning, Research, and Statistics Aminu Usman Giwa, reiterated the Fund’s dedication to building a resilient and well-trained healthcare workforce for Kano State.

“Our mission at KHETFUND is to invest in people—the future healthcare professionals who will serve our communities. By ensuring fairness in our support programs, we are promoting excellence and accountability in health education,” she stated, stressing that "The verification exercise forms a critical component of KHETFUND’s commitment to transparency and accountability."

During the visit, the KHETFUND team has also conducted a pre-funding verification of the proposed renovation of students’ hostels at the school by inspecting the hostel that need the renovation, reviewed relevant documents, and engaged with school management to validate the proposal submitted for the funding, so as to verify the need and scope of the proposed renovation, evaluate the existing infrastructure, and gather relevant data to guide decision-making on the release of funds.
Speaking when she received the verification team, the Principal of the School of Midwifery Dambatta, Kaltume A. Maikano expressed appreciation to KHETFUND for its continuous support and for recognizing the importance of midwifery education in improving maternal and child health outcomes.

“This initiative will go a long way in easing the financial burden on our students and motivating them to excel in their qualifying examinations,” the Principal remarked.

The Final Qualifying Examination Funding Support Program is one of KHETFUND’s strategic interventions designed to empower students in health-related fields—particularly nursing, midwifery, and community health—by providing financial support to cover examination and certification expenses.

KHETFUND is a Kano State Government agency established to provide sustainable financing for the health sector. The Fund focuses on improving health service delivery and expanding access to quality care through supporting health MDAs health facilities and health training institutions across the state.
