Officials from the Kano State Health Trust Fund (KHETFUND) conducted a comprehensive post-funding verification visit to the Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital (MAWTH). The strategic oversight visit was designed to audit the utilization and deployment of critical healthcare interventions funded by the agency.
As part of its 2025 Regular Intervention cycle, KHETFUND disbursed the sum of Forty-Eight Million Naira (₦48,000,000) to the teaching hospital on October 9, 2025. The funding was specifically earmarked for the procurement of essential lifesaving diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, including an advanced Ultrasound Scanning Machine, a heavy-duty Autoclave machine, and a modern Baby Incubator.
During the extensive physical verification exercise, conducted on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, the KHETFUND team confirmed that the procured medical equipment had been successfully delivered, installed, and fully integrated into active clinical service.
Speaking on the outcome of the exercise, the Executive Secretary of KHETFUND, Dr. Fatima Usman Zahraddeen, expressed deep satisfaction with the level of compliance and transparency demonstrated by the hospital’s administration.
"Our mandate at KHETFUND is to ensure that every single naira allocated to state health facilities translates into direct, measurable improvements in patient outcomes. The successful acquisition and operation of this scanning machine, autoclave, and incubator at Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital represent a major milestone in our mission," the Executive Secretary, who was represented by Director Special Duties Hamisu Abubakar, noted.
"We are determined to maintain strict post-funding oversight to ensure sustainability and maximum value for the people of Kano State," she affirmed.
In her remarks, the Chief Medical Director of Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital, Prof. Hadiza Sa'id, lauded KHETFUND for its timely support, stressing that the new equipment has already drastically reduced patient waiting times and enhanced neonatal care capabilities.
"This intervention has significantly strengthened our clinical operations. With the newly deployed incubator and scanning facilities, our maternal and child health units are better equipped to handle emergencies with higher precision. We thank KHETFUND for being a dependable partner in our journey to elevate tertiary healthcare delivery in Kano." the Chief Medical Director disclosed..
The verification exercise highlights the broader, aggressive healthcare overhaul spearheaded by the Kano State Government under the leadership of Executive Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf. The current administration has consistently prioritized public health infrastructure, implementing robust financial interventions and facility renovations across the state to ensure that standard medical services are accessible, affordable, and robustly managed for all citizens.
The success of the MAWTH intervention serves as a template for upcoming KHETFUND structural and technical expansions across other public medical institutions within Kano State.
