FRSC, NOA partner to sensitize public on dangers of fuel scooping

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in collaboration with the National Orientation Agency (NOA) tosensitize general public on dangers of fuel scooping.

The Sector Commander, FRSC RS1.2 Kano, Umar Matazu disclosed this during sensitization on Wednesday at Hotoro Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Depot, along Maiduguri Road in Kano.

Matazu represented by the Sector Public Enlightenment Officer, Abdullahi Labaran said fuel scooping has been identified as a major risk factor for fire outbreaks, explosions, and environmental hazards.

He said the campaign is aimed at raising awareness among petroleum workers, tanker drivers, and the general public on the severe consequences of engaging in such dangerous acts.

According to him,” this can also lead to severe burns and injuries and survivors of fuel fires often suffer life-threatening burns and permanent disabilities.

“Risk of explosion of fuel scooping creates highly volatile conditions that can lead to catastrophic explosions”,he said.

Legal Consequences: Fuel scooping is illegal, and individuals caught engaging in such activities may face arrest, prosecution, and severe penalties.

The Sector Commander added that there is need for all stakeholders to work together in discouraging fuel scooping.

He urged tanker drivers, depot workers, and residents to prioritize safety and report any incidents of illegal fuel activities to the appropriate authorities.

Matazu also call for continuous sensitization and strict enforcement of safety measures at fuel depots and highways to prevent avoidable tragedies.

In the same vein, The Acting State Director of the Agency, Alhaji Rabiu Ado represented by an official from the Agency, Hajiya Shamsiyya Ibrahim said ffuel scooping is illegal, and individuals caught engaging in such activities may face arrest, prosecution, and severe penalties.

On his part, The Chairman, Petroleum Tanker Drivers Kano State, Alhaji Sanin Malam thanked FRSC and NOA for the sensitization and urge general public to adhere strictly to prevent unforseen circumstances.(NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
