Commissioner Project Monitoring Inspects Upgrade of Convocation Arena as Aliko Dangote University Prepares for 25th Anniversary

In line with its mandate, the Kano State Ministry for Public Procurement, Project Monitoring, and Evaluation (MPPPM&E) conducted an inspection of the ongoing upgrade and renovation of the Convocation Arena at Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technologyy, Wudil.

A press statement issued  to PARAMOUNT REPORTERS by Sagiru Ado Abubakar the Public Relations Officer of the ministry, quoted the Vice Chancellor of ADUST Professor Musa Tukur Yakasai, saying the renovation is timely and essential, as the university is preparing to hold a convocation ceremony for several student cohorts who graduated as far back as 2016.

"For the first time, the Chancellor's office and the Council Chamber will be renovated. The Chancellor will also have a dedicated office within the chamber," the Vice Chancellor stated.

In a separate development, Hon. Ma’aji Sumaila also inspected the Takai 5-kilometer road project. He expressed concern over the use of substandard materials, noting that the bricks and construction mixture observed were below acceptable standards. He firmly warned the construction company that the ministry would not tolerate poor-quality work, regardless of the project stage.

The inspection tour also extended to the 5-kilometer road projects in Wudil and Warawa. The Commissioner urged contractors to accelerate progress in order to meet the five-month deadline set by His Excellency, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf.

"Two months have already passed, and the rainy season is fast approaching," he added.

Regarding the Garko Primary Healthcare Centre upgrade, the Commissioner commended the project. Experts praised the contractor's work and encouraged continued commitment to high standards.

NNPP Mobilization Committee Commiserates, Donates Money to Families of Gombe Truck Accident

The Gombe State New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) Presidential Contact and Mobilization Committee has paid condolence visits to the families of the victims of truck accident in Billiri Local Government Area.

During the visit, Pharm. Gali Sule, the Director-General of Kano State Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency and Chairman of the Committee, consoled with the bereaved families over the loss of their loved ones.

In the tragedy, five people were reportedly died, and 13 others were severely injured when a truck rammed into a procession of Christian faithful celebrating Easter on Monday 21st April in Billiri town.

Expressing his grief over the sad incident, Pharm. Gali Sule prayed for the quick recovery of the injured persons. The committee then donated N200,000 to the affected families.

Members of the Mobilization Committee, comprising notable politicians, including Alh. Zangina Jafaru, the Executive Secretary Kano State Consumer Protection Council, Hajiya A'in Jafaru Fagge, Abubakar Usman Kibiya, the Acting NNPP Kano State Youths Leader Alh. Auwalu kibiya, and Alh. Mukhtar Tijjani Kura, were accompanied by party executives of Gombe State NNPP, headed by the Caretaker Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Mohammed Wali.

Kano Drug Agency Begins Last-Mile Delivery for Family Planning Commodities

In one of the historic firsts, Kano State Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency has commenced the last-mile delivery for family planning commodities.

The last-mile delivery for family planning commodities is a strategic initiative aimed at integrating the family planning supplies with the Drug Revolving Fund (DRF) scheme, whereby the state-owned health facilities will receive their supplies from the DMCSA warehouses free of charge..

The program is a collaborative effort between the DMCSA and the Gates Foundation through its Implementing Partner, the Capacity for Sustainable Development, C4SD.

Speaking at the event, Pharm. Gali Sule, the Director-General of DMCSA, said integrating family planning supplies with last-mile delivery holds significant advantages, including accessibility enhancement, increase in utililization, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability of the program.

He further listed other benefits the residents of the state will gain from the initiative, such as  lowering health costs, timely delivery, reaching remote areas, reducing stockouts, and improving supply chain efficiency.

"The last-mile delivery ensures that family planning commodities and services reach the clients, even individuals in rural areas can access family planning commodities like contraceptives, making healthcare more inclusive. at the last smile can help in contributing to healthier families and communities," Pharm. Sule rightly observed.

"The easy access to medications improves quality of life and reduces the overall healthcare burden. That is, the efficient last-mile delivery systems will help in reducing the costs associated with transportation of the commodities from DMCSA stores to facilities. This reduces the financial burden on health systems."

When family planning commodities are delivered directly to local health centers, it reduces the need for facilities to travel long distances to DMCSA stores, saving both time and money.

The end result of this collarative effort will strengthen community health from grassroots, increase trust in health services, improve maternal and child health outcomes, and reduce mortality rates.

Kano DMCSA, C4SD Train MCH Coordinators, EDOs on Integration of FP Commodities and Last-Mile Delivery

In the quest for improved public health outcomes and sustainable development, the Kano State Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency has organized a two-day training to local government Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Coordinators and Essential Drug Officers ion the management of family planning commodities and delivery to the last mile.

Organized in collaboration with the Gates Foundation-funded Capacity for Sustainable Development (C4SD), the training aimed to enhance participants' professional capacities by equiping them with proper knowledge, with a view to offer consistent and high-quality services to individuals seeking family planning options.

Declaring the workshop open, Pharm. Aminu Bashir, the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health, who represented the Commissioner Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf at the function, spoke extensively on the importance of the integration of family planning commodities and last-mile delivery, noting that it is cost-effective, time-saving, and accountable.

He further highlighted that the effective management of family planning commodities and their delivery to the last mile is essential for promoting reproductive health and ensuring that individuals have access to necessary services.

On the significance of training, the PermanentSecretary said, "Orientation and training programs play a pivotal role in achieving the set objectives by equipping the participants with the necessary skills and knowledge needed for effective management and delivery.

"It becomes imperative to organize such trainings.. Through these efforts, we can pave the way for a future where family planning services are accessible to all, ultimately contributing to healthier families and communities," he observed.:

In his welcome address, Pharm Gali Sule said the program is designed to integrate the supply chain management of family health care commodities and essential medicine up to the last-mile delivery.

The integration, according to him, is a proposed national policy and will immensely contribute to improving health care service delivery in the country as a whole, adding that under this program, DMCSA will deliver the commodities to health facilities free of charge.

He reasserted the agency's resolve to continue collaboration with non-governmental organizations to expand outreach.

During the first day session, facitators who made presentations include Pharm. Tukur Ibrahim, who made a presentation on the Concept of Health Commodities Supply System; Pharm. Abdullahi Abubakar Danzabuwa on the Concept of Intergration and Last Mile Delivery; and, lastly, Bello Muhammad Dandago, who made his presentation on Supply Chain Management and Inventory Control of Contraceptive Commodities.

Kano HMB Set to Distribute N55M Worth Hydroxyurea, Thousands CS, Delivery Packs

As part of its continued monthly intervention, Kano State Hospital Management Board is set to distribute antisickling drug, Cesarean section items, and delivery kits to health facilities across the state.

The items to be distributed, according to Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda, the Executive Secretary of the Board, includes 500 Cesarean section (CS) packs, 6000 delivery packs, and 55 million naira worth hydroxyurea to sickle cell disease patients.

This intervention, however, signifies the commitment of the Kano State government to generally improve healthcare access by supporting maternal and other healthcare services and reduce mortality rates in the state.

The planned distribution is for the month of April, and Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, the Commissioner State Ministry of Health, is expected to headline the event.

It can be recalled that, since the inception of the present administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, the Kano State government through HMB is, on a monthly basis, purchasing and dritributing to health facilities the drugs and consumables worth hundreds of millions of Naira, including delivery kits, cleansing materials, and accident and emergency (A&E) items.

Kano DMCSA Receives Business Excellence Award

The Kano State Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency (DMCSA) has recorded another milestone as the agency received the "Business Excellence Award" during a partners conference of an international pharma company -- Shalina Healthcare Ltd. held Wednesday and Thursday  in Lagos.

Receiving the award during the event organized to celebrate the 40 years of corporate existence of Shalina Healthcare, Pharmacist Gali Sule, the Director-General of DMCSA, expressed his profound gratitude to pharma giant for the recognition, attributing the successes recorded at DMCSA to the support and cooperation of the State Government and the Ministry of Health, and the hard work of the staff of the agency..

"I am deeply honored and humbled to accept the Award of Excellence. This award strengthens my resolve to continue working tirelessly to ensure drugs and other consumables remain available, affordable, and accessible to the teeming populace of Kano State," Pharmacist Sule pledged.

"This recognition is not just a reflection of my individual efforts but a testament to the dedication and commitment of the Kano State government, led by the Executive Governor, His Excellency Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf and the encouragement and resilience of the state Commissioner for Health Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf.

"As you are all aware, leadership is never a solo journey. I share this moment with my incredible management team and the dedicated and hardworking staff of my agency," the DG concluded.

Earlier, presenting the Certificate of Award to the DG on behalf of their firm,  Amtav Basak, the Head of the pharma company in West Africa and Opeyemi Abisola Akinyele, the Nigerian Head,, said the Kano State DMCSA was carefully selected and recognized for being a "valued business partner of the firm for the year 2024/25."

They expressed their utmost satisfaction with initiatives and programs initiated by the Kano State DMCSA, especially in the areas of supplying, warehousing and distribution of commodities which are in line with the best global practice of the supply chain management.

Kano Health Ministry, C4SD Develop SOPs for LMD of Family Planning Commodities

In a complimenting move and a prerequisite requirement for the successful takeoff of the last mile delivery of family planning commodities, the Kano State Ministry of Health, through Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency (DMCSA),  has organized a meeting, Tuesday, to develop Standard Operating Procedures that will guide the project.

Speaking at the meeting, Pharm. Gali Sule, the Director-General of DMCSA, said creating the SOPs became necessary as the document would serve as a workable guide that would ensure all operations are aligned with the best global practice, as contained in a press statement issued by Farouk Isa Musa, the Public Relations Officer of the agency.

Funded by the Gates Foundation and supported by Capacity for Sustainable Development (C4SD), the last mile delivery for family planning commodities is a part of the integration initiative for all free essential drug programs with the Drug Revolving Fund (DRF) scheme spearheaded by the Ministry of Health, led by the Commissioner Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf.

This joint move, made by the Ministry and the development partners, namely the Gates Foundation and C4SD, is one of several collaborative measures taken to compliment the efforts of the Kano State government, headed by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, to generally revolutionize the health sector in the state.

The participants of the meeting were drawn from relevant organizations, including the state Ministry of Health, Hospital Management Board, State Primary Health Care Management Board, and the representation from health facilities.

Other participants from non-governmental organizations and implementing/ development partners include the Society for Family Healt (SFH), DKT International, and development Research and Projects Center (dPRC), among others.

DMCSA Sensitize Essential Drug Officers on Last Mile Delivery for Family Planning Commodities in Kano

As part of its efforts to integrate all free medical programs, Kano State Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency has organized a sensitization workshop for essential drug officers from the 44 local government areas on the commencement of last mile delivery of family planning commodities.

Declaring the workshop opened, Pharm. Gali Sule, the Director-General of DMCSA, said the meeting is part of the agency's broader plan to integrate Essential Medicines and all Public Health Commodities on Warehousing, Distribution, and Last Mile Visibility as a global best practices.

A press statement issued by Farouk Isa Musa, the Public Relations Officer of the agency, quoted Pharm. Sule saying the major aim of this ambitious harmonization project, which will commence next week, is that the facilities will get their DRF commodities at the same time with other free public health supplies , such as maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH), family planning, malaria, tuberculosis, among others.

Highlighting the potential efficiency and cost-effectiveness, the Director-General noted that under this project, the commodities will be delivered to facilities free of charge, adding that the initiative will go in a long way in improving the family health, especially that of maternal, neonatal, and the children.

Speaking on the objectives of the meeting, Malam Bello Muhammad Dandago, the Focal Person of State Sustainable Health Commodity Supply System (SHCSS) Committee in-charge of Primary Health Care, explained that the Essential Drug Officers of the 44 local government areas were chosen for the sensitization being the key stakeholders of last mile delivery of family planning commodities.

According to him, the meeting, funded by the Gates Foundation and supported by Capacity for Sustainable Development, was organized to prepare the Essential Drug Officers on how to properly manage the vital aspects of the project, including warehousing centralization, acquiring contact details of heads of pharmacies, among others.

Varsity, SPE partner to address energy challenges in Nigeria

The Vice Chancellor, Bayero University, Kano, (BUK) Prof. Sagir Adamu, says the university is set to partner with the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) to address energy challenges in Nigeria.

Adamu, disclosed this while speaking at the Society of Petroleum Engineer (SPE) Africa 2025 annual student congress holding in Kano on Thursday.

The VC was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Haruna Musa at the congress with the theme:”Building the energy workforce of tomorrow highest on innovation, technology insight and talent development.”

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that SPE, Nigeria council is hosting the Africa Energy Challenge 2025, a competition for SPE Students Chapters in Africa to showcase their skills and talents in addressing energy challenges.

The competition focuses on energy accessibility, energy security, and sustainability.

The VC said that the congress we take the students right from entry through research in petroleum engineering with view to address development challenges, most specifically for Nigeria.

While thanking the society for recognising the university as their host, the VC said, “this is the first SPE annual congress in Nigeria and in BUK.”

The African Regional Director of SPE, Dr. Riverson Opong, said the congress, which is an international body, cuts across 156 countries globally.

“We have our members across 80 countries and Africa is a country of great talent technology, and with energy, the world can change.

“We have students from Port Harcourt, Tanzania, Kenya, Ghana, among several other countries that are beneficiaries of our congress,”he said.

Oppong said that five winners would be selected from the competitions to hold among representatives of different universities before the end of congress.

A student from Miles and Technology, Ghana, Oteng Kenneth, expressed joy for being among those selected to attend and expressed optimism that they win in order to participate at an international level.(NAN)

Kano Records Improved Healthcare Services during Sallah Festivities

Kano state government said it has recorded improved healthcare services during the just concluded sallah festivities.

The Executive Secretary Kano State Hospitals Management Board Dr Mansur Mudi Nagoda stated this while expressing satisfaction with improvements records as the Board successfully completed the Sallah season executive supervision of state-owned healthcare facilities.

According to him, the exercise was aimed at assessing compliance with professional standards, improving service delivery, and ensuring accountability within the healthcare sector during festive seasons.

The findings from the supervision have been highly insightful and productive, reinforcing commitment to upholding the integrity and efficiency of the healthcare system, Dr. Nagoda stated in a press statement issued by Samira Suleiman, the Public Relations Officer of the Board.

As part of the exercise, appropriate measures have been taken against those found wanting, including the issuance of query letters to defaulters. The Executive Secretary, however, emphasized that this process is not a witch-hunt but a necessary step towards strengthening discipline, professionalism, and adherence to the rules governing medical practice in Kano State,

“Healthcare workers who are unwilling to abide by the established laws and regulations should understand that they will bear the consequences of their actions. The Board remains firm in its stance that professionalism, ethical conduct, and dedication to duty are non-negotiable in the medical field.”

Furthermore, he reiterated that there is a vital role of medical associations in maintaining standards and ensuring compliance. Moving forward, we encourage stronger collaboration with these professional bodies in the supervision process to foster better monitoring and mentorship.

“It has come to our attention that many individuals have entered the medical profession without fully understanding or committing to the laws and by-laws guiding the practice. This must change, as strict adherence to these regulations is essential for maintaining quality healthcare services.”

He emphasized that the Hospital Management Board remains committed to improving healthcare delivery in the state and will continue to take necessary steps to ensure that our hospitals operate at the highest standards.

“We urge all healthcare professionals to take their responsibilities seriously and work towards the collective goal of providing quality medical services to the people of Kano State.
