5KM Road Projects: MPPPM&E Goes Tough On Contractors

The Ministry for Public Procurement Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Kano has warned contractors handling the ongoing 5km road Projects In 44 local governments to speed up work or face contract termination.

The Commissioner Nura Ma'aji Sumaila issued the warning Thursday after receiving complaints from the local residents shortly after inspection of the 5KM road project in Bunkure local government. 

A press statement issued by Sagiru Ado Abubakar, the Public Relations Officer of the ministry, indicated that one Aminu Muhammad, a resident of Kofar Fada neighborhood in Bunkure town complained to the Commissioner that people in the locality are afraid because of the heavy rain flows during the rainy season.

The Commissioner used to interact with the communities in each site visited to hear their views in relation to the 5KM road project. During the Thursday's tour,  five local government areas were visited, including Garun Malam, Kura, Bunkure, Rano and Kibiya.

Summarizing the outcome of the tour, Sumaila commended the contractors handling the 5KM road of Rano and Kibiya local governments. While in Garun Malam, the Commissioner said that the project was even revoked as the contractor abandoned site 

"In Bunkure and Kura local governments, we warned the contractors. We issued them a warning for the last time. We will come back to these two locations in the  next two weeks.  If we found that none of them comply, we will definitely recommend revocation of the contracts," he warned. 

The Commissioner then drew the attention of the contractors to expedite actions and make sure that what they are doing meets the required standards and quality as His Excellency Engr Abba Kabir Yusuf, Executive Governor of Kano State ensured cost effective projects, projects that are quality assured.

The 5KM road inspection tour is expected to go round 44 local governments on a monthly basis to ensure quality and timely completion.

Society launches 2025 humanitarian activities calendar in Kano

The Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), Kano state branch, has urged volunteers to embark on house to house enlightenment to educate mothers on childcare, hygiene, and environmental health

The Executive Secretary of the NRCS Kano Branch, Alhaji Musa Abdullahi, stated this at a news conference on Monday in Kano. 

He said that the enlightenment is meant to ensure the well-being of children and the community at large.

He reaffirmed the society's dedication to supporting government and aiding communities in Kano through continuous humanitarian efforts.

He launched the 2025 humanitarian activities calendar to enhance public awareness and coordination of its services across the state and beyond.

The calendar, he said would serve as guide for humanitarian interventions across various local government areas and communities in Kano and Nigeria at large.

He said that the society would be supporting government initiatives, particularly in healthcare services and disaster management, reinforcing that its operations are auxiliary to government efforts.

“We have been assisting government in hospitals across various communities, conducting sensitisation programs, and providing training on emergency rapid first aid and disaster management,”he said.

Abdullahi explained the roles of Nigerian Red Cross Society in youth mobilisation and grassroots education, particularly in response to health crises and epidemics.

Kano Commissioner for Health Receives Presidential Recognition

The Kano State Commissioner for Health Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf has been honored with a Certificate of Recognition for Excellence in Public Health Transformation.

Governor Yusuf Assents Center for Disease Control Law

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has signed the Kano State Center for Disease Control and Prevention Law following its passage by the State House of Assembly.

A statement issued by Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor's spokesperson disclosed that the Governor assented to the bill at the commencement of the 25th Kano State Executive Council meeting held at the Government House.

Speaking, Governor Yusuf restated his administration’s commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy and fostering the rapid socioeconomic development of the state.

He emphasized that the government remains steadfast in its efforts to initiate and implement policies and programs aimed at improving the lives of Kano State citizens.

Governor Yusuf also expressed appreciation for the unwavering support and cooperation of the people, urging them to sustain the momentum to achieve the administration’s set goals.

Kano PHIMA Intergrates More LGAs into Data Documentation, Routine Immunization Efforts

In a significant move to strengthen the healthcare delivery in Kano State, the Private Health Institutions Management Agency (PHIMA) has successfully coopted additional local government areas into ongoing data documentation and routine immunization initiative. The local government areas integrated  include Tofa, Gwarzo, Karaye, Rogo, Kiru, Rano, Bunkure, Kura, and Garun Malam.

A statement issued by Binta Kabir Usman, the Public Relations Officer of the agency, highlighted that the expansion marks a critical milestone in the Government’s commitment to ensuring comprehensive immunization coverage and accurate health data management.

The ongoing exercise, spearheaded by PHIMA and supported by key stakeholders, aims to enhance the accuracy of immunization records and improve vaccine accessibility for children in underserved Communities. By expanding coverage, the initiative seeks to reduce the incidence of preventable diseases and improve overall public health outcomes.

Speaking on the development the Director-General noted that "The inclusion of more LGAs in this documentation and immunization drive is a testament to our dedication to protecting children from vaccine-preventable diseases. Through precise data collection and efficient vaccine distribution, we are ensuring that no child is left behind.”

 The documentation process involves rigorous data verification, household tracking, and enhanced coordination with local healthcare workers to improve immunization outreach. Health officials urge parents and guardians to take advantage of this program is opportunity by ensuring their children receive the necessary vaccinations as part of the national immunization schedule.

 Authorities also acknowledge and appreciate the support of community leaders, health workers, and partner organizations in facilitating this initiative. Their collaboration has been instrumental in overcoming challenges such as vaccine hesitancy and logistical constraints.

Serve Kano People, Shun Materialism, DG DMCSA Tasks New KSCPC ES, Council Members

The newly-appointed Executive Secretary of Kano State Consumer Protection Council and the other council members have been called upon to resist the temptation of amassing worldly riches and ensure the safety of residents of the state as general consumers.

This charge was made by the Director-General Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency Pharm.Gali Sule when friends and well-wishers escorted the newly appointees to the office on Monday.

He advised the appointees to be dedicated, honest, and God-fearing while discharging their duties, as their actions and inactions would have greatly affected the people of Kano, positively or otherwise.

Being a former Executive Secretary to the State Consumer Protection Council who served between 2014 and 2017, Pharm. Sule urged the new Executive Secretary and his team to partner with relevant stakeholders including the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON), National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN), and State Ministry of Health, to move the state forward.

Lamenting how consumers' rights are being trampled upon in the state, the Director General assured theteeming  populace that with the composition of the present Council, including representatives of the business community, their rights would be adequately protected.

Earlier speaking, the new Executive Secretary of the Council Alhaji Zangina Jafaru solicited for the cooperation and support of the entire staff of the Agency and all stakeholders, warning that the business is not going to be as usual.

In their separate remarks, Honorable Ibrahim Ahmad Gama (Lugard) and Hajiya Sadiya Umar Bichi who spoke on behalf of the appointees, thanked Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for finding them worthy for the appointments, pledging to work tirelessly so as to achieve the desired goals.

Those appointed as key members of the council include Honorable Ibrahim Ahmad Gama (Member representing Kano Central), Hajiya Sadiya Umar Bichi (Member representing Kano North), Alhaji Hussaini Bello Gidado (Member representing Kano South) Alhaji Munzali Abubakar (Representative of business community I, Kantin Kwari Market), Ali Muhammad Adakawa (Representative of business community II, Kwanar Singa), Alhaji Ahmed Isah Chedi (Representative of business community III, Dawanau Market), and Sani Gambo (Representative of business community IV, Abubakar Rimi Market).

FG, KDSG assure on provision of potable water

Mr Usman Ibrahim, Director of Project, Kaduna State Water Corporation (KADSWAC), on Monday, assured Nigerians of the Federal and Kaduna State Governments’ commitment to the provision of potable water.

Ibrahim disclosed this at a two-day stakeholders’ retreat to assess the progress of the Sustainable Urban and Rural Water Supply, Sanitation, and Hygiene (SURWASH) programme in Kano, organised by KADSWAC.

The retreat, held in Kano, had as theme: “Enhancing Effectiveness: Procedures and Best Practise of Work Plan Preparation and Implementation, Proper Financial Management and Fund Disbursement”.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the retreat was specifically on financial documentation, fund disbursement mechanisms and procedures to best practice of work plan preparation.

The director explained that both governments were deeply concerned about the Water Supply, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) activities.

Ibrahim said the aim of the retreat was to review progress, identify issues, and find solutions to tackle them, hence the choice of Kano.

“There is need to improve water and sanitation services for the people; in line with this, the Kaduna state government awarded a N25 billion contract in December,” he said.

Similarly, Mr Ibrahim Hamza, Kaduna State Commissioner for Public Works and Infrastructure, who doubles as the Chairman, State Steering Committee of SURWASH, recalled that the programme began in May 2021.

He said there was mid-term review by World Bank and Federal Ministry of Water Resources last year to see what had been done in the past three years on the project.

“There is need for state government to bring in their money, expend it, and if the result comes out, they will go and claim their money or whatever they invest.

Forest Security receives 25 complaints in Kano

Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS), Kano State Command, says it received no fewer than 25 complaints in January.

The Commander of NFSS in the state, Abdullahi Al’ameen, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Monday.

Al’ameen said that out of the 25 complainants received, 18 has been treated and done with, while seven are still pending.

He also said that the cases received within the period under review, were mainly on animal theft, burglary, phone theft, motorcycle theft, Kidnapping among others.

He noted that the service was trying its best to leave up to its mandate, which include prevention, detection of crimes and illegal activities perpetrated in the forests.

He assured that the NFSS would partner with relevant stakeholders on community policing to achieve greater success.

The commander also assured that in 2025, NFSS would continue to re-train its personnel on weapon handling, security and intelligence gathering as well as combating security challenges.

He said that the training would help prepare personnel to combat security threat and challenges in the forest.

”It will also aid and guide our personnel on how best to gather relevant information on armed robbers, land grabbers thieves among others,” he said.

He solicited the cooperation of the general public to make the state a zero-free crime society.

NAN, NUJ, NARTO, others win FRSC award in Kano

The Federal Road safety Corps (FRSC) has honoured the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) for their commitment and adequate reportage of its activities and creating awareness about safer roads.

The Corps also recognised the contributions of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kano State Council, and others for safer roads thereby bringing road crashes to the barest.

Other organisations recognised by the corps include, Express Radio, the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), and a philanthropist, Alhaji Sani Yakasai, among others.

The Sector Commander of FRSC RS1.2 Kano, Umar Matazu, speaking on Saturday during the 2024 end-of-the-year award night, said it was the first such event held in Kano.

Matazu presented the award to NAN for their commitment and sacrifices in covering FRSC activities and creating awareness about safer roads.

He noted that the awardees had demonstrated professionalism in the discharge of their duties by reporting FRSC activities objectively.

He, however, reaffirmed the Federal Government unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety of Nigerian roads, with significant investments in infrastructure development, innovation, and strategic partnerships.

He said that government has made substantial progress in reducing road crashes and protecting the lives of citizens, in line with its overarching goal of ensuring public safety and well-being.

He acknowledged that the FRSC Corps Marshal and his team have been working assiduously to reduce unacceptable driving practices and promoting a culture of road safety among Nigerians.

The sector commander said that the award given was in recognition of many outstanding contributions of the media to the growth of FRSC, but commended NAN for projecting the activities of the FRSC in Nigeria over the years.

He, however, emphasised the crucial role of the media in national development, stating that their impact was immeasurable.

He said that the award recognised NAN’s efforts in educating, informing, and sensitising the public on road safety ethics through its timely and accurate reporting.

“I want to say thank you to NAN. You have been accommodating us and we really appreciate it,”he said.

He commended the staff of the Corps for their tireless efforts in making Nigerian roads safer and expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his unwavering support, particularly in approving funds for the Corps’ patrol operations.

He emphasised that the President’s support had been instrumental in enabling the FRSC to effectively discharge its mandate.

The sector commander acknowledged the dedication and selfless service of FRSC staff, who have worked tirelessly throughout the year to ensure free flow of traffic and reduce road crashes.

He described them as the backbone of the Corps, saying their commitment to duty had been exemplary.

Highlight of the event were presentation of awards and certificates to the awardees.

Also, outstanding staff of FRSC at the event was also awarded with management recognitions.

According to him, Educating the general public on road safety in the state has yielded positive results in compliance with road traffic rules.

“This award is to recognise achievements, milestones, excellence, and selfless service and a collective efforts by stakeholders to promote road safety and reduce fatalities on our roads.”

He urged them to continue raising awareness and encouraged others to be more dedicated to their duties.

Kano Hospital Board Inaugurates Committee to Crush Maternal, Neonatal Mortality

As part of the efforts and commitment of the Kano government to curb maternal and neonatal mortality in the state, the Executive Secretary Hospital Management Board Dr. Mansur Nagoda has on Saturday inaugurated the Maternal, Neonatal, and Child Health Committee.

Dr. Nagoda said the Board, supported by State Ministry of Health under the leadership of the Commissioner Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf is working round the clock to curtail maternal and neonatal death, which he describes as a critical public health goal that requires a multifaceted approach.

The Executive Secretary further stressed that, among the strategies put in place, the Board is making adequate provisions to ensure that all pregnant women have access to regular prenatal check-ups to monitor the health of both mother and baby, 

The Hospital Management Board will also promote the presence of skilled healthcare professionals during childbirth to manage complications effectively.

Other measures are creating awareness among  women, especially in the rural areas, about maternal and neonatal health, including the importance of prenatal care, and involving community leaders and organizations to spread awareness and encourage healthy practices.

"We are committed to strengthening the health systems by investing in training healthcare providers to improve their skills in maternal and neonatal care," Dr. Nagoda observed.

"Curbing maternal and neonatal mortality requires a comprehensive approach that addresses healthcare access, education, nutrition, and social determinants of health. By implementing these strategies, we can make significant progress in improving maternal and neonatal health outcomes in Kano State." 

Manwhile, the members of the newly-inuagurated committee were drawn from different agencies and facilities, namely the Hospital Management Board, Primary Health Care Management Board, Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency, Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, and Khalifa Sheikh Isyaka Rabiu Paediatrics Hospital.

Dr. Nagoda charged the members of the committee to carry out their assignment with utmost dedication and determination.

Project Monitoring Tour: MPPPM&E Advances Projects Oversight

As the state's watchdog for public procurements and projects, Thursday, 6th February, 2025 the Ministry for Public Procurement Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Kano forged ahead with the project monitoring tour.

The Commissioner Comrade Nura Ma'aji Sumaila had on Thursday visited five local government areas, where he inspected 12 projects, as contained in a statement issued by Sagiru Ado Abubakar,  the Public Relations Officer of the ministry.

The tour started with Tofa local government, whereby the Honorable Commissioner inspected renovation of classroom blocks in Lambu Bakin Titi Primary School and construction of Kwankwasiyya Gida-Gida Blocks of 4 Classrooms at Yalwa Karama Primary School.

In Bagwai local government, the Honorable Commissioner inspected 5 kilometer road, construction of Standard Magistrate Court, classroom blocks in Bagwai Model primary school and Kwankwasiyya Gida-Gida Blocks at Umbawan Liman primary school.

Nura Ma'aji Sumaila in Shanono started with inspection of 5 kilometer road, then proceeded to Central Primary School, Shanono 

In Gwarzo local government, the tour monitored Farm Mechanization Institute, Hawan Gamji to Kara Sabon Layi 13.2 kilometer road, Zango Primary School and Classroom block at Upper Basics Government Secondary School Shehu Abdulwahab

In Umbawan Liman village, Malam Muhammad, the Chief Imam welcomed the Honorable Commissioner, praised the administration of His Excellency Engr Abba Kabir Yusuf, Executive Governor of Kano State who made their dreams on education came true.

Malam Muhammad said that the village before has no a single block, the children were taken lessons in an open place until the intervention of this administration. He then appealed to the Honorable Commissioner to extend their demands for accessible roads to His Excellency Engr Abba Kabir Yusuf 

Addressing the press during the tour, the Honorable Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the level and quality of projects he inspected especially the block of classrooms. He urged other contractors to emulate from the project of Umbawan Liman primary school as Kano State government will not in any way accept poor quality and shoddy work.

The Ministry for Public Procurement Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Kano serves as a watchdog for the state public projects, and oversees project completion in accordance with set out plans, timeframe as well as other monitoring processes meat to ensure aims are attained in accordance with rules and regulations.

Health Revolution Yeilding Positive Result in Kano, as ES HMB Calls for Collaborative Efforts

The measures, programs, and initiatives recently introduced by Kano State Hospital Management Board, led by its Executive Secretary Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda, purposely to revolutionize the health sector, has proved to be fruitful.

Making a general assessment on the outcomes of the supervision, Dr. Nagoda described the exercise as success, as it is creating a desired attitudinal change among staff, the general sanitation of facilities is improving, and patient satisfaction has been largely increased as delay in attending a patience has been drastically reduced.

The Hospital Management Board, supported by the State Ministry of Health, headed by the Commissioner Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf has introduced the Executive Supervision campaign to all state-owned health facilities under the board.

Speaking during the launch of the supervision last week, Monday, Dr. Nagoda disclosed that the major objectives of the exercise were to create a positive attitudinal change among medical workers, ensure all government interventions are properly utilized, increase efficiency in service delivery, and mitigate diversion and hoarding of commodities provided by the state government. by some unpatriotic health workers.

He then called for a proactive collaboration with all other agencies in fulling this obligation.

Dr. Nagoda, together with heads of agencies under the Ministry and all directors of the Board, has visited over 20 facilities in two weeks.

FRSC, NOA partner to sensitize public on dangers of fuel scooping

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in collaboration with the National Orientation Agency (NOA) tosensitize general public on dangers of fuel scooping.

The Sector Commander, FRSC RS1.2 Kano, Umar Matazu disclosed this during sensitization on Wednesday at Hotoro Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Depot, along Maiduguri Road in Kano.

Matazu represented by the Sector Public Enlightenment Officer, Abdullahi Labaran said fuel scooping has been identified as a major risk factor for fire outbreaks, explosions, and environmental hazards.

He said the campaign is aimed at raising awareness among petroleum workers, tanker drivers, and the general public on the severe consequences of engaging in such dangerous acts.

According to him,” this can also lead to severe burns and injuries and survivors of fuel fires often suffer life-threatening burns and permanent disabilities.

“Risk of explosion of fuel scooping creates highly volatile conditions that can lead to catastrophic explosions”,he said.

Legal Consequences: Fuel scooping is illegal, and individuals caught engaging in such activities may face arrest, prosecution, and severe penalties.

The Sector Commander added that there is need for all stakeholders to work together in discouraging fuel scooping.

He urged tanker drivers, depot workers, and residents to prioritize safety and report any incidents of illegal fuel activities to the appropriate authorities.

In his continued, unrelenting efforts to revolutionize the health sector, the Executive Secretary of Kano State Hospital Management Board Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda has today, Wednesday 5th February, led a powerful Executive Supervision Team to health facilities located in Tofa and Kabo local government areas.

In Tofa Local Government, Dr. Nagoda and his entourage have visited a health facility recently constructed by a member representing Dawakin Tofa, Tofa and Rimin Gado at the House of Representatives, Hon. Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe.

The visit was a part of preliminary preparations for the official commissioning of the facility. After Tofa, the team then proceeded to the Kabo Local Government health facility.

During the visit, Dr. Nagoda was together with Director General of Kano State Private Health Institutions Management (PHIMA) Prof. Salisu Ibrahim Ahmad, the Executive Secretary of Kano Health Trust Fund (KHETFUND) Dr. Fatima Zahraddeen and the directors of HMB.

The health revolution is yielding a positive result. The Executive Secretary of HMB is calling for proactive collaboration with all other agencies in fulfilling this obligation.

Organized by the HMB, in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the Executive Supervision was officially launched on Monday, the 27th of January, and was designed to cover all facilities under the Board, located both in the metropolis and the rural areas. 

The facilities visited so far by the Executive Secretary and other team members include Murtala Muhammad Specialists Hospital, Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital, Sir Muhammad Sanusi Specialist Hospital, Sheik Muhammad Jidda General Hospital, and Yadakunya General Hospital.

Others are Waziri Shehu Gidado Hospital, Abubakar Imam Urology Center, Malam Shuaibu Medical Center Tudun-Wada, and Jafar Clinic Dakata, among others.

PCN Commences Accreditation of Kano DMCSA for Certification as Mega Drug Distribution Hub, Internship Training Center

The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) Kano Office has paid a preliminary inspection visit, Tuesday, to State Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency (DMCSA) as part of prerequisite requirements for granting license as a mega drug distribution hub as well as internship training centre.

Pharmacist Hasiya Abubakar Ladan, the State Officer In-charge of PCN Kano Office, who led the team, said the essence of the inspection is to generally assess the DMCSA with view to issue the Agency with Premises Registration Certificate.

She further added that the inspection is a preliminary one, noting that the main supervision is to be carried out by a high-powered technical team from the nNational head office of PCN in Abuja.

Praising the leadership of DMCSA for what she termed as "managing the organization very well," Pharmacist Ladan expressed her satisfaction with the level of compliance by DMCSA, urging the aAgency to implement recommendations given to them and complete the remaining "finishing touches.""

Receiving the delegation in his office, Pharmacist Gali Sule, the Director General of DMCSA, who personally conducted them around the warehouses and other facilities of the organization, said the agency was producing drugs in the recent past, but it suspended working and embarked on upgrading the Drug Manufacturing Unit as recommended by the PCN and National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), so that it would meet all the necessary requirements of these regulatory bodies.

The Director General then thanked the delegation for the visit, assuring them of total cooperation from the DMCSA

Kano Health Ministry, HMB Embark on Executive Supervision of Facilities

To restore sanity and revolutionize the health sector in general, Kano State Hospital Management Board, in partnership with the Ministry of Health, has jointly commenced tenacious executive supervision of healthcare facilities across the state.

The exercise, which was officially launched on Monday 27th of January, was designed to cover all facilities under the Board, located both in the metropolis and the rural areas. 

Speaking on the essence of the exercise, the Executive Secretary of Hospital Management Board Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda said the supervision strives to create a positive attitudinal change among medical workers and ensure all government interventions are properly utilized.

Other major objectives of the exercise, according to him, are to increase efficiency in service delivery and mitigate hoarding and diversion of commodities provided by the state government. by some unpatriotic health workers.

"We are paying the unscheduled visits to health facilities to mainly assess their sanitary conditions and see how the services are rendered. The major issues we largely concentrate on include checking of staff roster for all cadres so as to check on the professional relationships among staff in order to avoid unwanted rivalry.

"The significance is to reduce truancy to the minimum level, to curtail unnecessary delays in intervention, and to make sure all government policies, especially on crushing maternal and neonatal mortality,are fully implemented. Here, we check and view utilization registers of free delivery and Cesarean sections," he stressed.

The Executive Secretary further explained that the exercise was not meant to harass, intimidate, or witchunt anybody but rather to generally improve service delivery at all government-owned facilities in the state.

He noted that the state government, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has rolled out several measures and interventions to provide succor and improve the welfare of the patients. Such interventions include issuing out free delivery kits, free accident and emergency items, and free cleansing items for general sanitation of facilities and maintenance of proper hygienic condition among staffers.

Kano Govt Announces Measures to Sanitize, Improve Services at Hospitals

To ensure effective and efficient service delivery, the leadership of Kano State Hospital Management Board has rolled out policies and measures to all government-owned health facilities across the state.

The Executive Secretary of the Board Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda announced this Saturday during a top management meeting for the first quarter of the year 2025.

The measures introduced, as part of an intense and strategic campaign to revolunize the entire health sector, include the mandatory thorough cleaning of all health facilities, vigorous campaign for atitudinal change among staff, routinely vetting and auditing of Drug Revolving Fund (DRF) and Kano State Contributory Health Insurance (KSCHMA) schemes, and putting utilization registers into proper usage with patients full details.

Other measures according to the Executive Secretary include forming of sanitation committee, reorganizing training for DRF/KSCHMA operations, and upgrading of clinical unit at Imam Wali to cover general surgery and obstetrics and gynecology to relieve Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital and Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital.

Decrying the appalling unsanitary condition of some facilities, Dr. Nagoda disclosed that on a monthly basis, Kano state government, through his agency, is providing enough cleaning and cleansing materials to all facilities, but such items are not judiciously utilized at some quarters, warning that this will not be condone.

In addition to free cleansing materials, the Kano State Government, led by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, is providing free delivery kits and free accident and emergency drugs to health facilities.

"As of today, 1st February 2025, the revolution in the health sector has begun. Henceforth, the state government will not tolerate  sabotage from any staff," he warned, adding that the resolutions were made in good faith, without intent to victimize or witchunt anybody.

Those who attended the meeting include the directors of the Board, Zonal Directors, and Chief Medical Directors of the state-owned facilities. Also, in attendance are the Director-General of Kano State Center for Disease Control (KNCDC) Prof. Muhammad Abbas and that of Kano State Agency for the Control of Aids (KSACA) Dr. Usman Bashir.

Kano HMB Map Out Ways for Health Facilities to Utilize Capitation Funds

Kano State Hospital Management Board has submitted a comprehensive proposal to the Commissioner Ministry of Health Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf on ways health facilities could judiciously use the capitation funds collected from Kano State Contributory Health Insurance (KSCHMA) to reform and develop their respective outfits.

Speaking on the proposal, the Executive Secretary of HMB Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda highlighted that to ensure a consistent supply of essential medications to support quality patient care, a major part of the funds should be used to purchase drugs, so as to ensure a consistent supply of essential medications to support quality patient care.

The proposal suggested that the other part of the funds should be channeled to relevant healthcare services as demanded, such as hiring additional staff, as well as renovation and maintenance of infrastracture, especially the patient care areas

"The capitation funds present a valuable opportunity for facilities to enhance healthcare services, improve patient outcomes, and strengthen operational efficiency. This proposal we submitted to the Honorable Commissioner outlines a plan for the effective utilization of capitation funds," Nagoda emphasized.

"In a nutshell, the proposal outlined a plan for the effective utilization of capitation funds to enhance healthcare services, upgrade infrastructure, and strengthen operational efficiency. We believe that this plan will enable our facilities to provide high-quality care to our patients while ensuring sustainable operations in Kano Stat," he concluded.
