Ya ce, "Muna samun rahoton, nan take muka dauki mataki. Mun tura tawagar haɗin gwiwa daga Ma'aikatar Lafiya, PHIMA da KNCDC da kuma Rundunar Yan'sanda zuwa wurin, inda aka samu nasarar kama wanda ake zargin tare da masu taimaka masa. A halin yanzu ana tsare da su a Hedikwatar 'Yan Sanda ta Bompai domin ci gaba da bincike."

Dakta Yusuf ya bayyana cewa an tarar da wanda ake zargin yana raba wa mutane, wadanda aka sarin su mata ne, katin yin rijastar ganin likita da sunan wata kungiya mai zaman kanta, mai suna Brother Paul Legacy Foundation, inda yake karɓar kuɗi daga jama'a da sunan samar musu da magani.

Ya ƙara da cewa bincike da jami'an Ma'aikatar Lafiya da Hukumar PHIMA da KNCDC suka gudanar ya tabbatar da cewa wanda ake zargin ba ƙwararren ma'aikacin lafiya ba ne, kuma ba shi da wata shaidar cancanta da aka amince da ita a fannin kiwon lafiya.

Kano Ministry of Health Bust Illegal Medical Outreach, Suspect in Police Custody

The Kano State Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Private Health Institutions Management Agency (PHIMA),the Kano State Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC), and the Nigeria Police Force, Kano Command has arrested some suspects allegedly conducting an illegal medical outreach in Panshekara in Kumbotso Local Government Area, as part of ongoing efforts to protect the health and safety of residents.

The Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, disclosed that the swift intervention followed credible intelligence received from vigilant members of the public regarding the unauthorized medical activity.

"We acted immediately upon receiving the report. A joint team from the Ministry of Health, PHIMA, and KNCDC was deployed to the location, leading to the arrest of the suspect. We subsequently contacted the Kano State Command of the Nigeria Police Force, and the suspects are currently in police custody at the Bompai Headquarters for further investigation," the Commissioner stated.

Dr. Yusuf explained that the suspects were found operating under the name Brother Paul Legacy Foundation, a purported non-governmental organization, where they were distributing registration cards bearing the organization's name and collecting money from unsuspecting members of the public under the guise of providing medical services.

He further revealed that preliminary investigations conducted by officials of the Ministry of Health, PHIMA, and KNCDC established that the mastermind and the other suspects were neither qualified health professional nor possesse any recognized health-related certification.

According to the Commissioner, the registration cards issued by the suspect, which bear an address in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, falsely promised "free treatment" in an apparent attempt to lure unsuspecting victims into the illegal operation.

Dr. Yusuf urged residents to remain vigilant and refrain from patronizing unlicensed individuals or self-acclaimed healthcare providers, emphasizing that medical services should only be sought from government-approved health facilities and duly licensed healthcare professionals.

He also commended the Nigeria Police Force, Kano State Comman, under the purposeful leadership of the Commissioner Alh. Ibrahim Bakori and his gallant officers for their decisive intervention.

He further commended the public-spirited individuals whose timely report led to the successful operation, describing their action as a demonstration of the vital role citizens play in safeguarding public health.

The Commissioner called on members of the public to promptly report any suspicious or illegal medical activities to the appropriate authorities, reaffirming the Kano State Government's unwavering commitment to eliminating quackery, protecting lives, and ensuring that healthcare services across the state remain safe, ethical, and professionally regulated.

The Director General of the Kano State Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency (DMCSA), Pharm. Gali Sule, has reaffirmed the Agency's commitment to fostering strategic partnerships with religious leaders and other critical stakeholders as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare service delivery and government-community relations in Kano State.

The Director General made this known when he received the leadership of the Council of Kadiriyya Imams, Kano State Chapter, on a courtesy visit to his office.

As part of its commitment to ensuring transparency, accountability and value for public investment in the health sector, the Kano State Health Trust Fund (KHETFUND) has conducted a post-funding verification visit to Abubakar Imam Urology Centre to assess the implementation of key interventions financed by the Fund.

The verification exercise took place on Thursday, 23rd July, 2026, with the KHETFUND delegation led by the Director of Operations, Dr. Muhammad Lawan Adamu, on behalf of the Executive Secretary, Dr. Fatima Usman Zahraddeen.

The team was warmly received by the Chief Medical Director of Abubakar Imam Urology Centre, alongside the hospital's management team, who conducted the visitors round the completed projects and provided updates on their implementation and impact on healthcare service delivery.

During the exercise, the KHETFUND team verified the successful execution of two critical interventions funded by the Trust Fund. These include the installation of a solar power system, for which the sum of ₦57,341,500.00 was disbursed on 11th November, 2025, as well as the procurement of a Diathermy Machine, supported with ₦5,700,000.00 disbursed on 8th April, 2026.

Speaking during the visit, Dr. Muhammad Lawan Adamu reaffirmed KHETFUND's unwavering commitment to monitoring and evaluating all projects financed by the Fund to ensure that public resources are judiciously utilized and that funded interventions achieve their intended objectives.

He noted that post-funding verification exercises remain an integral part of KHETFUND's accountability framework, providing the opportunity to confirm project completion, assess functionality and evaluate the impact of interventions on healthcare delivery across the state.

Following a ₦11,720,000 capital injection disbursed earlier this month, the Kano State Health Trust Fund (KHETFUND) delegation visited Sheikh Muhammad Jidda General Hospital to assess the procurement and deployment of specialized physiotherapy equipment aimed at bolstering rehabilitation care in the state.

The post-funding verification exercise follows the initial release of funds on July 8, 2026. The grant was designated specifically to equip the hospital’s physiotherapy department with modern devices to support post-surgical recovery, trauma therapy, and mobility rehabilitation.

PHIMA Strengthens Health Data Management Through Sensitization Workshop for Private Health Facilities

The Kano State Private Health Institutions Management Agency (PHIMA) has successfully organized a one-day sensitization workshop for Proprietors and Chief Medical Directors (CMDs) of private health facilities on health data documentation, reporting, and utilization.

The workshop, held at Tahir Guest Palace, brought together key stakeholders from the health sector, government agencies, and owners of private health facilities to strengthen the quality of health information through proper documentation, timely reporting, and effective use of health data for planning, policy formulation, and evidence-based decision-making.

In her welcome address, the Acting Director General of PHIMA, Hajiya Khadija Sa’id, emphasized the importance of accurate and timely health data in improving healthcare delivery across Kano State. She urged all private health facilities to maintain proper records of their patients and ensure that monthly health data reports are submitted to the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Officers in their respective Local Government Areas.

Hajiya Khadija expressed concern that while some private health facilities are duly registered with PHIMA, they fail to submit their monthly health data reports. She further noted that some facilities continue to operate without registration, while others obtain registration but fail to renew their licenses as required by law.

She warned that PHIMA would not hesitate to enforce the provisions of the law by sanctioning any facility found operating illegally, failing to renew its registration, or refusing to comply with statutory reporting requirements.

Delivering his remarks, the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Labaran Yusuf, stressed that every private health facility operating within Kano State must be duly registered and licensed. He stated that any private hospital operating without registration should be closed in accordance with the law.

The Commissioner noted that the safety of patients remains the government’s highest priority, explaining that a significant number of citizens seek healthcare services in private hospitals. Therefore, it is imperative that such facilities meet the required standards to ensure quality and safe healthcare delivery.

He also urged Chief Medical Directors and proprietors of private health facilities to consistently submit their monthly health data to the government, describing health data as an indispensable tool for effective planning, disease surveillance, resource allocation, and improving health outcomes across the state.

Also speaking at the workshop, the Director General of the Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board, Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim, highlighted the critical role of quality health data in strengthening the healthcare system. He explained that accurate documentation and timely reporting enable health authorities to identify disease trends, monitor service delivery, evaluate health interventions, and make informed decisions that enhance healthcare services. He encouraged participants to view data documentation not merely as a reporting obligation but as a professional responsibility that contributes to better healthcare outcomes.

In a presentation on the Overview of Health Data Documentation and Reporting Requirements, Alhaji Muhammad Sidi Abdullahi explained the standard procedures for collecting, documenting, and reporting health data within private health facilities. He emphasized the need for completeness, accuracy, consistency, and timeliness in data reporting, noting that quality data are essential for health planning, monitoring programme performance, and guiding government interventions. He also encouraged participants to adhere strictly to national health information management guidelines.

The workshop concluded with an interactive session during which participants asked questions, shared experiences, and discussed challenges affecting health data documentation and reporting. Practical solutions and recommendations were also highlighted to improve compliance and strengthen collaboration between PHIMA and private health facilities in Kano State.

KHKHETFUND Conducts Post-Funding Verification of ₦56.6 Million Solar Power Intervention at Kiru General Hospital

The Kano State Health Trust Fund (KHETFUND) has conducted a Post-Funding Verification Visit to Kiru General Hospital to assess the implementation and impact of the solar power project financed by the Fund as part of its commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure across Kano State.

The verification exercise, which took place on Tuesday, 21st July, 2026, was led by the Executive Secretary of KHETFUND, Dr. Fatima Usman Zahraddeen, alongside members of the Fund's management team.

KHETFUND disbursed the sum of ₦56,619,370, on 12th March, 2026, to Kiru General Hospital for the installation of a solar power system aimed at ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply, improving service delivery, and enhancing the quality of healthcare provided to patients.

Speaking during the verification visit, Dr. Fatima Usman Zahraddeen expressed satisfaction with the successful execution of the project, noting that the intervention has significantly improved the hospital's capacity to provide uninterrupted and efficient healthcare services.

She attributed the Fund's achievements to the unwavering support of the Executive Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, whom she praised for placing the health sector at the forefront of his administration's development agenda.

The monitoring exercise follows KHETFUND’s strategic financial release on November 14, 2025, which provided ₦1,343,000.00 to KSACA under the fund's 2026 Regular Intervention cycle. The fund was specifically approved for the procurement and installation of a high-speed Starlink satellite internet network to optimize data management and streamline the agency's state-wide healthcare response.

The verification team, led on behalf of the Executive Secretary of KHETFUND, Dr. Fatima Usman Zahraddeen, by the Director of Operations, Dr. Muhammad Lawan Adamu, thoroughly assessed the newly deployed network infrastructure. The team evaluated the installation quality, system functionality, and the immediate impact of the high-speed connectivity on the agency's daily operations.

Speaking during the verification exercise, held on Thursday, July 16, 2026, Dr. Muhammad Lawan Adamu emphasized that robust digital infrastructure is the backbone of modern public health administration. KHETFUND Verifies ₦48M Medical Equipment Intervention at Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital

Officials from the Kano State Health Trust Fund (KHETFUND) conducted a comprehensive post-funding verification visit to the Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital (MAWTH). The strategic oversight visit was designed to audit the utilization and deployment of critical healthcare interventions funded by the agency.

As part of its 2025 Regular Intervention cycle, KHETFUND disbursed the sum of Forty-Eight Million Naira (₦48,000,000) to the teaching hospital on October 9, 2025. The funding was specifically earmarked for the procurement of essential lifesaving diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, including an advanced Ultrasound Scanning Machine, a heavy-duty Autoclave machine, and a modern Baby Incubator.

During the extensive physical verification exercise, conducted on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, the KHETFUND team confirmed that the procured medical equipment had been successfully delivered, installed, and fully integrated into active clinical service.

Speaking on the outcome of the exercise, the Executive Secretary of KHETFUND, Dr. Fatima Usman Zahraddeen, expressed deep satisfaction with the level of compliance and transparency demonstrated by the hospital’s administration.

"Our mandate at KHETFUND is to ensure that every single naira allocated to state health facilities translates into direct, measurable improvements in patient outcomes. The successful acquisition and operation of this scanning machine, autoclave, and incubator at Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital represent a major milestone in our mission," the Executive Secretary, who was represented by Director Special Duties Hamisu Abubakar, noted.

In a major step toward advancing specialized medical training and elevating healthcare delivery in the state, the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Health Trust Fund (KHETFUND), Dr. Fatima Usman Zahraddeen, alongside her team, conducted a post-funding verification visit to the Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu Paediatric Hospital.

The high-level oversight visit, which held on Tuesday, 14th July 2026, follows the Fund’s release of over N11 million on 12th March 2026 to the facility. The financial support, granted under KHETFUND’s 2026 Regular Intervention, was specifically designated to secure official accreditation for the hospital's Paediatric Residency Training program.

During the verification exercise, Dr. Fatima Usman Zahraddeen expressed satisfaction with the hospital's utilization of the funds, noting that cultivating local medical specialists is vital to achieving long-term autonomy and excellence in Kano's health sector.

"Our visit today confirms that public resources are being deployed transparently and effectively," said Dr. Zahraddeen. "By funding this residency accreditation, we are not just supporting a hospital; we are investing in the next generation of paediatricians who will safeguard the health of our children.

Kano DMCSA Marks Third Anniversary of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the Agency with Public Lecture on Drug Abuse, Reaffirms Commitment to a Healthier Kano

As part of activities marking its third anniversary, the Kano State Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency (DMCSA) on Wednesday organized a public lecture on the menace of drug abuse, bringing together experts, government officials, religious leaders and stakeholders to address one of the most pressing public health and social challenges confronting society.

The lecture, held at the Agency's headquarters in Kano, was chaired by the Head of the Kano State Civil Service, Hajiya Bilkisu Shehu Maimota,, applauding the Kano State government under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for transforming the health sector.

"First and foremost, I wish to express my profound appreciation to His Excellency for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to improving the health and well-being of the people of Kano State. Over the past three years, this administration has demonstrated remarkable dedication to strengthening our healthcare system, improving access to quality medicines, enhancing health infrastructure, and implementing policies that promote the welfare of our citizens."

She decried the prevalence of drug abuse as one of the greatest societal evils threatening the well-being of  communities, particularly young people, stressing that tackling the challenge requires sustained public enlightenment and collective action.

"Today, we have gathered to deliberate on an issue that affects every family, every community, and indeed the future of our dear State: - The growing menace of drug abuse. The drug abuse has become one of the most pressing public health and social challenges of our time. Its consequences extend beyond the individual, affecting families, communities, educational institutions, workplaces, and the overall socio-economic development of our society."

Bilkisu Maimota further observed thatt the fight against drug abuse cannot be left to government agencies alone. It requires collective responsibility involving families, religious leaders, traditional institutions, schools, healthcare professionals, security agencies, civil society organizations, and every well-meaning citizen. Prevention through education, early intervention, effective regulation, rehabilitation, and sustained community engagement remains the most effective strategy.

She also stressed that she was "particularly delighted that today's lecture brings together distinguished experts from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the psychiatric medical profession, and the Islamic scholarly community. Their wealth of experience and diverse perspectives will undoubtedly enrich our understanding of the causes, consequences, prevention, and management of drug abuse."

The Head of Civil Service then urged participants, particularly young people, to carefully reflect on the presentations delivered during the lecture and become advocates against drug abuse in their homes, schools and communities.

"I encourage all participants to listen attentively, engage actively during the discussions, and take-home practical lessons that will enable us to become advocates against drug abuse within our various communities. Together, we can protect our young people, strengthen our families, and build a healthier, safer, and more productive Kano State," Maimota added.

She finally commended the DMCSA for organizing the lecture and for the remarkable achievements it recorded over the past three years, noting that its contributions have significantly strengthened access to quality and affordable medicines across Kano State.

"Let me commend the Management and staff of the Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency for organizing this timely public lecture. Beyond ensuring the availability of safe, quality, and affordable medicines and medical consumables, the Agency has demonstrated its commitment to promoting public health through advocacy and community education.

"As we celebrate the achievements of this administration, let us also renew our collective commitment to building a society where our youth are empowered with hope, guided by sound values, and protected from the devastating effects of substance abuse," she concluded.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Director General of DMCSA, Pharm. Gali Sule, said the lecture formed part of the Agency's week-long activities commemorating three years of impactful service under the administration of Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf.

He explained that while the Agency has made significant progress in ensuring the supply of quality, safe and affordable drugs to public health facilities across the state, addressing the misuse and abuse of medicines remains equally important in safeguarding public health.

"Our anniversary is not only a time to celebrate achievements but also an opportunity to give back to society through initiatives that improve public health awareness. Ensuring access to quality medicines is only meaningful when those medicines are used responsibly and safely," Pharm. Gali Sule stated.

The Director General reaffirmed the Agency's commitment to supporting government policies aimed at protecting citizens from counterfeit medicines, drug misuse and substance abuse through strategic partnerships, advocacy and continuous stakeholder engagement..

"The fight against drug abuse cannot be left to enforcement agencies alone. It requires collaboration among health institutions, regulatory agencies, religious leaders, educational institutions, parents and community leaders. DMCSA will continue to support every effort that promotes responsible medicine use and protects the health of our people," he added.

The lecture featured presentations by distinguished resource persons drawn from key institutions.

The State Coordinator of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Alhaji Kasim Ibrahim, delivered the first paper titled "Enlightening the Public on the Use of Substandard and Falsified Medicines," highlighting the dangers posed by counterfeit and fake medicines and the importance of purchasing drugs only from approved sources.

The second presentation, "The Menace of Drug Abuse in Society, Especially Among Youths," was delivered by Chief Superintendent of Narcotics Zubair *(......last name here)* representing the Kano State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), who emphasized preventive strategies and community involvement in combating substance abuse.

Dr. Aminu Shehu of the Federal Neuro-Psychiatric Hospital, Dawanau, presented the third paper on "The Dangers of Drug Abuse on the Mental and Physical Health of Society," where he examined the devastating health consequences of substance abuse and underscored the need for early intervention and treatment.

The final presentation was delivered by Sheikh Nura Adam Galadanchi of Jama'atul Tajdidul Islam on "The Menace of Drug Abuse from an Islamic Perspective," stressing the role of religious teachings, moral values and family guidance in preventing drug abuse and promoting healthy living.

The anniversary lecture formed part of DMCSA's broader efforts to commemorate three years of reforms and achievements in strengthening the pharmaceutical supply chain while promoting public awareness on issues critical to the health and well-being of the people of Kano State.

KHETFUND Conducts Post-Funding Verification of N87 Million Interventions at Bichi General Hospital

In line with its mandate to promote transparency, accountability, and sustainable healthcare financing, the Kano State Health Trust Fund (KHETFUND), on Wednesday, 8th July 2026, conducted a comprehensive Pre-Funding and Post-Funding Verification Visit to Bichi General Hospital.

The verification exercise was led by the Executive Secretary of KHETFUND, Dr. Fatima Usman Zahraddeen, as part of the Fund's robust monitoring and evaluation framework designed to assess completed interventions, identify priority healthcare needs, and ensure that public resources are judiciously utilized to improve healthcare service delivery across Kano State.

During the visit, the Executive Secretary inspected the completed reconstruction of the hospital's perimeter wall fence, executed at a total cost of ₦87,070,503.07 through funds disbursed on 3rd September 2025 and was verified to ensure compliance with approved standards and value for money.

The team also conducted a pre-funding verification for the proposed solarization of the hospital's oxygen power plant, an intervention aimed at providing a reliable and sustainable power supply to support uninterrupted oxygen production and strengthen emergency and critical healthcare services at the facility.

Speaking during the visit, Dr. Fatima Usman Zahraddeen reaffirmed KHETFUND's unwavering commitment to ensuring that every intervention financed by the Fund delivers measurable impact to health facilities and the people of Kano State.

During the visit, the team verified healthcare interventions valued at ₦32,290,000, which were funded by KHETFUND following the disbursement of funds on 13th January 2026. The Kano State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, has called on prospective couples participating in the ongoing mass marriage programme to strictly adhere to health guidelines provided by experts, and comply with the spiritual guidance offered by the Hisbah Board.

The Commissioner made the call while supervising the medical screening exercise for the 3,000 beneficiaries, currently taking place at the Kano State Agency for the Control of AIDS (KSACA).

Addressing the prospective couples, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf emphasized the importance of the medical screening and counseling process in ensuring healthy and successful marriages. He urged the beneficiaries to take the exercise seriously and make the most of the opportunity provided by the government.

He further informed the participants that all medical tests and counseling services associated with the programme are being provided free of charge, noting that the Kano State Government, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has supplied all the necessary medical consumables required for the exercise.

Kano Committee Busts ₦200 Million Fake Drug Warehouse in Major Crackdown

The Kano State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting public health and curbing the circulation of substandard drugs. 

This follows the seizure of counterfeit drugs worth over ₦200 million by the Kano State Committee on Motor Parks and Other Public Places during its operation in Kano.

The drugs lacked approval from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

The operation was carried out jointly by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NDLEA, Police, and Immigration to ensure its success and safeguard the lives and property of citizens.

The raid, led by the Committee Chairman, Major Adamu Abubakar Usman (Rtd.), took place in a neighborhood within Kano metropolis following intelligence reports and the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure that only safe and approved medicines are sold to the public.

A press release issued to journalists by Balarabe Abdullahi Kiru, the Director Public Enlightenment at Kano State Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs who is also a member of the committee, quoted Major Abubakar speaking during the operation that the fake drugs were found in an abandoned building, stored under extreme heat and without any health safeguards. 

"These drugs lacked NAFDAC certification, further endangering public health, especially that of women and children.

"Storing drugs in unhygienic conditions and excessive heat can compromise users efficacy and cause serious harm to their live, particularly when the drugs are not approved by the relevant authorities".

Major Usman emphasized that the Committee will continue to collaborate with security and health agencies to combat the trafficking of fake drugs and ensure that anyone found involved in this illegal activity is prosecuted.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Policy and Special Development Dr. Danyaro Ali Yakasai also a member of the committee urged the public to verify the authenticity of medicines before purchasing and to report anyone suspected of selling substandard or unapproved drugs.

He reiterated that Kano State Government would not tolerate anything that endangers the lives of its citizens and would continue to take appropriate measures to protect public health.

Earlier, the Assistant Commander Narcotics, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Kano Command, Ya'u Malam Yakubu explained that the confiscated drugs include 55 cartons of Super Sexy, 144 cartons of Bold Brown/Body Blis, 70 cartons of Lion King/Hygra and 3 sacks of empty parks.

PHIMA, FCDO Lafiya Strengthen DHIS2 Reporting Capacity Among Private Health Facilities in Kano

The Private Health Institutions Management Agency (PHIMA), in collaboration with the UK Government's Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office, FCDO Lafiya Programme,  has successfully conducted a two-day capacity-building workshop aimed at strengthening DHIS2 reporting among selected private health facilities in Kano State.

The workshop, which took place at the Agency’s conference hall, brought together representatives of private health facilities, Local Government Area (LGA) Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) officers, the PHIMA M&E team, the State HMIS team, and development partners.

The training Focused on improving DHIS2 reporting completeness, timeliness, data quality, and effective data utilization among private health facilities across the State.

In her welcome address, the Acting Director-General of the Agency, Hajiya Khadijah Sa’id, appreciated the participants for honoring the invitation and urged private health facility representatives to ensure accurate and timely documentation of patients’ records.

She noted that proper record keeping and regular monthly reporting through DHIS2 are essential in helping government and stakeholders in the health sector to understand prevailing health challenges within communities and respond appropriately through improved healthcare interventions.

She further stated that facilities that consistently submit accurate and timely reports would be recognized with certificates or tokens of appreciation to encourage compliance and excellence in reporting practices.

She emphasized the need for improved DHIS2 reporting, stressing that quality health data remains critical for disease surveillance, health planning, policy formulation, resource mobilization, and evidence-based decision-making within the health sector.

The Acting Director-General also disclosed that PHIMA would commence supervisory visits to health facilities across the State next week, warning that any facility found violating reporting regulations or operating outside approved standards would face sanctions, including possible sealing of the facility.

Speaking during the workshop, the PHIMA Monitoring and Evaluation Officer Shafi’u Ahmad highlighted the a

Agency’s mandate and the National Health Management Information System (NHMIS)/DHIS2 policy requirements for both public and private health facilities.

According to him, every private health facility operating in Kano State must register with PHIMA before commencing operations and renew its operational license annually upon payment of the approved renewal fees.

He further stressed that all health facilities are mandated to comply with NHMIS/DHIS2 reporting requirements by ensuring complete, accurate, and timely submission of health data into the national health information system.

The officer warned that facilities found guilty of non-compliance, poor reporting practices, or illegal operations would be sanctioned in accordance with regulatory guidelines.

Also speaking at the workshop, The facilitator Muhammad Jamil Saleh from FCDO Lafiya presented an analysis of DHIS2 reporting performance among private health facilities. He revealed that many facilities remain completely non-reporting or have very low reporting rates.

He identified common data quality challenges, including incomplete records, delayed submission of reports, inconsistencies in figures, and inaccurate documentation. He further explained that quality health data plays a vital role in planning, budgeting, supportive supervision, performance monitoring, resource allocation, and program implementation. He added that reliable data enables government and partners to identify health priorities, track disease trends, allocate resources effectively, evaluate health programs, and make informed decisions that improve healthcare service delivery.

As part of the workshop activities, participants were divided into groups comprising private health facility representatives and LGA M&E officers to identify root causes of reporting and data quality gaps, share operational and system-level challenges, and develop practical strategies for improving reporting completeness and timeliness.

Each group later presented its findings and recommendations, with participants collectively emphasizing the need for stronger collaboration, regular supportive supervision, continuous capacity building, and greater commitment to DHIS2 reporting among private health facilities.

Kano DMCSA Holds Workshop on SOP Development for Integrated Last-Mile Delivery, Fleet Management

The Kano State Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency (DMCSA) has organized a two-day workshop on the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Integrated Last-Mile Delivery (iLMD) and Fleet Management, as part of efforts to strengthen the healthcare supply chain system in the state.

The workshop, supported by the Gates Foundation through Capacity 4 Sustainable Development (C4SD), brought together key stakeholders from the Kano State Ministry of Health and its agencies, implementing partners, and technical experts to collaboratively design operational frameworks that align with national guidelines and international best practices.

Speaking during the opening session, the Director General of DMCSA, Pharm. Gali Sule, emphasized the importance of establishing clear and standardized operational procedures in all activities of the Agency.

According to him, the development of SOPs is critical to ensuring professionalism, efficiency, accountability, and adherence to global best practices in the management and distribution of drugs and medical consumables across Kano State.

Pharm. Gali Sule further commended development partners, particularly the Gates Foundation's Strengthening Integrated Last Mile Delivery and Supply Visibility Project, for their continuous technical support to the Agency through Capacity 4 Sustainable Development (C4SD).

He noted that the partnership has significantly contributed to strengthening the state’s health systems and improving service delivery mechanisms.

In his welcome address, the Director Pharmaceutical Services, Kano State Primary Health Care Board, Pharm. Abdullahi A. Danzabuwa noted that after procurement, last-mile delivery is the most costly part of the supply chain system. He stressed the need to make the iLMD system work effectively, adding that everyone must understand their roles and responsibilities. He prayed that Allah would grant participants the wisdom to produce a concrete document.

Delivering goodwill message, the State Lead C4SD reiterated the project's commitment to the continued improvement in the health commodity supply chain of Kano State in line with international best practices. 

In his presentation, Pharm. Tukur Ibrahim, the Technical Assistant to DMCSA, explained that the workshop focused on developing practical and sustainable SOPs for Integrated Last-Mile Delivery and Fleet Management, aimed at enhancing efficiency and ensuring the timely distribution of essential health commodities to healthcare facilities across the state.

He also noted that the expected outcomes of the workshop include the establishment of a robust framework for effective fleet management and last-mile delivery operations, ultimately improving healthcare service delivery, especially at the grassroots level.

Also speaking, Pharm. Salisu Hashim Muhammad, the Director of Drugs and Supply at DMCSA, who enumerated the objectives of the workshop, assured participants of the Agency’s commitment to ensuring that the SOPs developed are practical, sustainable, and responsive to the healthcare delivery needs of Kano State.

Participants at the workshop engaged in technical sessions and collaborative discussions designed to produce comprehensive operational guidelines that will standardize processes, improve coordination, and enhance accountability within the health supply chain system.

The workshop represents another milestone in the ongoing efforts of the Kano State Government, stewarded by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, to strengthen the health sector and guarantee the availability and efficient distribution of essential medicines and medical consumables across the state.

The seasoned technical experts at the event include Dr. Aisha Barka, Coordinator of Reproductive Health and Family Planning at the State Ministry of Health, Pharm. Isah Bala Musa, Director Pharmaceutical Services at the Hospital Management Board, and Mansura Yahaya Haruna, the State Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Coordinator, among other stakeholders and professionals in the health sector.

The workshop concluded with a session on next steps, led by the standing chairman, Pharm. Abdullahi A. Danzabuwa. He commended participants for attending over the weekend and prayed for their safe return to their destinations.
